Today we’d like to introduce you to Melina Morales.
Melina, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
Born and raised in Milwaukee, WI, I always knew I wanted to live creatively in a big city. As a child, my dream job shifted from year to year but always stayed in the creative fields.
I first picked up a camera in high school and began taking portraits of friends. I then began working for a portrait studio and eventually became a second shooter for a well-known wedding photographer in my hometown. This led me to want to start branching out on my own and I started booking my own portraits and weddings and my weekday evenings and weekends quickly became filled with photography bookings.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I am a graphic designer for a pharmaceutical marketing company by day and when I am not working my 9-5, I am a lifestyle photographer.
I love lifestyle photography because I can shoot people as they are, naturally. Time is fleeting and capturing moments before they escape us is everything. I strive to illustrate those special moments for people to look back on and remember that time in their life.
Do current events, local or global, affect your work and what you are focused on?
I think artists in today’s world are more powerful than ever before with the influence of social media and the audiences they are able to reach.
I find a lot of inspiration in artists, local and international, that are organic. It’s not always about the perfectly staged Instagram photo and it is nice to see some raw talent among the rest.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
All my work is currently online and can be viewed on my website.
