Today we’d like to introduce you to Ellen Cyrier.
Ellen, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I’ve always loved making things, working on projects, and creating ever since I was young. I am now fortunate enough to have a larger skillset to express myself, but that foundation is still the same. I’m an artsy, creative, hands-on kid at heart, and enjoy expressing myself through visual mediums.
After trying to figure out what I wanted to do after high school, the only thing that I could honestly envision myself studying for four years was art. So, I packed up my supplies and headed off to the incredible University of Iowa. There, I found a great company in other creatives and was able to learn and try new materials and types of art. I expanded my horizons and even dabbled in some really interesting art history courses as well. I was able to funnel my passion into all the things I liked, even combining my love of music and photography. I started working as a concert photographer, and absolutely love trying to capture the feeling of a live show on camera.
I’ve continued to grow and explore, and have been able to springboard my art into many different spaces. I’ve worked as a wedding photographer, created pieces for public areas, traveled and gotten some great inspiration and photos along the way, been featured in publications, and have met amazing people that inspire me every day. I’m looking forward to learning more, collaborating with others, and continuing to make new art.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
My art is quite diverse and covers a lot of different mediums. I love exploring new materials and using everyday objects or components in new ways, bringing a fresh perspective or meaning to something we see daily. I hope my art makes viewers feel something, reminds them of a time or place, gives them a new outlook on life, or creates a memorable interaction. I truly hope audiences enjoy a moving, creative and maybe even thought-provoking experience with every view.
How can artists connect with other artists?
Fortunately, thanks to the internet, connecting with people (artists included) is getting easier and easier. There are tons of Facebook groups, Meetups, etc. that can be a great place to start. Being a little old school myself, I always find heading over to events, like 2nd Fridays, is a great way to check out what’s going on, see some cool art, and meet other people interested in the same thing as you. I also love signing up for new art classes in a subject area I’m interested in. Not only will you be adding some knowledge to your art toolkit, but it’s the perfect place to connect with other artists.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
