Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Dahl.
Ashley, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
A little over a year ago, I decided to turn my photography hobby into a business because I was looking for ways to fill my free time. It wasn’t until a few months into creating my business that I realized that I fell in love with not only photography, but the business of photography. I love running a business just as much as I love photography, so the two make a perfect pair. It makes me proud to say that I am not only a photographer, but also an entrepreneur.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I’m a wedding and lifestyle photographer who photographs couples in love, ready for an adventure and ecstatic to celebrate their love story. My style is bright, light and joyful and my absolute favorite thing to do is to capture the candid, natural moments as they happen.
The reason I love photography so much is because for a split second, I get to freeze a moment as it is happening and then later gift it to my clients for them to remember for years to come. Not only can they flip through their wedding album on their first anniversary, but they can flip through it on their 50th and still remember how they felt the exact moment the photo was taken. Their grandchildren’s children will be able to look at their wedding photos and think “Wow! Look how in love they were!” That’s what I want.
Artists face many challenges, but what do you feel is the most pressing among them?
Sometimes a lot of us struggle with comparing ourselves to others in the industry. It’s so hard not to! Especially in the world we live in where social media is something that has become a part of our daily lives and our business. I think it’s important to recognize when it is time to unplug from it for a while when it starts to suck you into it all. Taking time to not be on it is a great way to start not comparing yourself to others.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
My work can be found on my website by visiting http://www.ashleydahlphotography.com or on Facebook and Instagram as @ashleydahlphotography. One of the best ways to support a creative entrepreneur is by simply liking and sharing an image if you are moved by it. Social media is a great way for us to grow our business organically through your support.
