Art & Life with Tammi Camp

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tammi Camp.

Tammi, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
Photography has always had a special place in my heart. When I was little I would flip through magazines, admiring the beautiful photographs. Growing up in the 90’s, polaroids were my fave!! My father taught me how to use a camera on his 1970’s film camera. I would take photographs of flowers and nature.

Fast forward into my early twenties, I was in beauty school (what can I say, I am a lover of all forms of art!) and my oldest sister was pregnant with her first child. She asked me to take photos for her. So, I did. Once she posted them, everyone contacted me asking if I could do a photo session for them… That’s when I decided I should start this as an actual business.

Being a photographer, although I had an undying love for it, wasn’t something I saw as a career… But I guess you could say photography chose me!! It is my passion and now 5 1/2 years later, it is my full-time job and I get the privilege of being able to travel all other and photograph all kinds of beautiful people!!!!

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I like to photograph people in their natural state. I am not much for stiff poses and awkward say cheese smiles. Lifestyle is more of my approach. I direct my clients in a particular way that lets things they normally do shine through in the photographs I take! I am all about having fun, dancing and being weird! Weird is the new cool! Life is too short to be boring!

Do you think conditions are generally improving for artists? What more can cities and communities do to improve conditions for artists?
I think anytime you are a small business it can be difficult. As a photographer, there’s so much time and money that is spent growing your business and skill. For any type of artist, I think it has always been hard for everyone to appreciate what it is we do.

At the end of the day, this is my job. It’s how I pay my bills. It’s how I eat.

Let’s all support our family and friends with their business adventures! Ask what you can do to help them succeed! Don’t ask for discounts! Show your support and let them know how much they are worth!!!
