Today we’d like to introduce you to Andie.
Andie, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I originally started writing music at my parent’s house in Michigan about 7 years ago. I found the process to be healing & the most natural form of expression for me. 2 years ago, I made the decision to commit to my craft. I currently study Contemporary Music at Columbia College Chicago. This introduced me to the city, where I found many creative spaces to thrive & continue learning about myself through the development of my music.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I write music of the R&B & indie persuasion about my real-life experiences & inner tension. I write because I am a highly emotional person, & it allows me to process those feelings & express them in a healthy way. Performing live is one of my favorite parts of being a musician; I can create an atmosphere that is cathartic for others, and it feels like a form of therapy for me.
What responsibility, if any, do you think artists have to use their art to help alleviate problems faced by others? Has your art been affected by issues you’ve concerned about?
I believe the role of every artist is different. If an artist chooses to be inspired and influenced by the events surrounding them, that is an amazingly selfless way to create. If I’m honest, I consider my work introspective rather than political. This does not indicate a disinterest on my part to dive into broader topics, but at the moment I do not feel I can articulate my beliefs as well as I’d like to.
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
