Today we’d like to introduce you to Adam Clague.
Adam, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I spent much of my childhood drawing cartoons and comic heroes. At age 12, I tried my hand at realism by using colored pencils to capture a still life arrangement of pop cans. The endeavor was awarded Best of Show in the Michigan State Fair. Around that time, I also experimented with oils, but it wasn’t until my commercial art studies at Pensacola Christian College that I fell in love with the medium. It was at college that I met my wife, fellow artist Andrea Orr Clague. We earned Masters of Fine Art degrees from PCC in 2009 and were married in 2012. We live near Kansas City, MO with our 1 year old, Gideon and work as full-time artists.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
There is beauty everywhere—even in the seemingly mundane. However, it can be easy to miss if you’re not looking for it. My goal as an artist is to capture the beauty I see in God’s creation so viewers can share in its enjoyment.
I work mainly in oil and paint in an impressionistic manner. Whether I’m painting a person, place or object, I strive to communicate the intrinsic beauty of my subjects faithfully.
It is my hope that my paintings will edify, uplift, and serve as reminders of God’s goodness and truth still present in today’s dark world.
As an artist, how do you define success and what quality or characteristic do you feel is essential to success as an artist?
For representational painters, I believe success is achieved when a work is technically excellent and effectively communicates a beneficial message.
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
My work is represented by Ward & Ward Fine Art in Kansas City, MO; Hudson Fine Art in Hudson, OH; and Gallery Augusta in Augusta, MO. You can also enjoy my work on Instagram, Facebook, and on my website, AdamClague.com.
