The Influencers

Photo by: Staci Ratner of Chicago Literacy Alliance

VoyageChicago owes a huge debt to the incredible local community of influencers – from fashion bloggers to foodies – who put in countless hours of work uncovering hidden gems throughout Chicagoland. We’d like to introduce you to some of Chicago’s most gifted tastemakers and influencers below.

April 2016. Two months after I relocated from Gary, Indiana to Atlanta, Georgia. I told myself I’d commit myself to living out my wildest dreams. ***** I told myself I’d work at an HBCU, write and self-publish a book, be in a healthy, growing relationship, meet and connect with influential women, & network with others who who would help me to fulfill my purpose in life. ******* These past two years have flown by, & I’ve fulfilled a vast majority of my goals…I’m not in a relationship, and I choose not to dwell on that. As long as I’m fulfilling my destiny, growing closer to God, and being the best Jerra I can be…eventually, he’ll find me. I’m looking forward to seeing what these next two years have in store for me! 😊 #FlashBackFriday #FBF #GeorgiaPeach #FromGaryToGeorgia #GaryGirl #GoalDigger #GoGetter

“Like a siren’s call, the group’s pieces draw the listeners in, refocusing their energy on the sights and sounds and words of the performers in front of them. It’s reminiscent of early spoken word and music experiments, but for the millennial generation, steeped in the sounds of electronic and hip-hop music. More importantly, it is precisely a product of Chicago, a place that has nurtured some of the best and brightest young writers and musicians of this generation.” -Britt Julious of @chicagotribune on @growingconcernspoets. See you at their FRESH INK community workshop for teens & adults at @826chi on Saturday at 3pm! A few tickets left! Something’s been happening in Instagram that’s behind the scene to most, but to those of us who even remotely have the hope of monetizing off of Instagram activities, it’s a carnage out there. And it’s all because the almighty gods at Facebook/Instagram decided to change things. I’m kind of indifferent to it all as my earning potential on Instagram is so small anyway… and really, what keeps me coming back to Instagram is the connections that I’ve made, people I’ve gotten to know, YOU who are reading as far down in a random rambling post. The truth is, I have not felt inspired to create content here. It’s been feeling shallow… superficial… and just blah. And physically, I have not been able to keep up…I’ve been feeling exhausted on a daily basis. But today, I stepped out of the house. Met up with my friend Peggy @peggyliaocake and had a wonderful time catching up. And just like that, I feel a little more energized and a little more motivated. Then, I remembered this photo @stylenfuse took of me just a month back. I’m looking forward to laughing like this because of what I do, because of this hustle called Cubicle Chic. Thank you universe. Well, thank you Peggy, too 😊 . . . . #findingmymojo #fridayvibes #littleblackdress #workingwoman #9to5chic #thedailyhustle #freelancerlife #happygirlsaretheprettiest #professionalwomen #businesswoman #womenempowerment #womeninsuits #chicworkchick #workwearstyle #workwearyoulovetoshop #lbd

The ever iconic Rockefeller Center. It offers something new for every season. We took advantage of some of its fabulous shopping @katespadeny , @tiffanyandco , @lego and @americangirlbrand . Wikipedia defines this area as a large complex consisting of 19 commercial buildings covering 22 acres (89,000 m2) between 48th and 51st Streets, facing Fifth Avenue, in New York City. Commissioned by the Rockefeller family, it is located in the center of Midtown Manhattan. The 14 original Art Deco buildings span the area between Fifth and Sixth Avenues, split by a large sunken square and a private street called Rockefeller Plaza. Five International Style buildings, built later, are located on the west side of Sixth Avenue and at the head of Rockefeller Plaza. . . . . . #rockefellercenter #nyc #newyork #topoftherock #newyorkcity #manhattan #travel #city #bigapple #rockefeller #stayclassy #designer #travelgram #instadaily #photography #instatravel #flowers #5thavenue #skyscraper #travelphotography #nbc #building #citylife #cityview #iceskating
