Our Favorite Foodies

Chicago’s food scene is one of the most vibrant in the nation – but without the city’s prolific foodies, many of us would be in the dark about much of the amazing new food offerings in town. Their photos, blog posts and insta and snapchats bring Chicago’s food culture to life. We’ve highlighted some of our favorite local foodies below.

There’s lots of food that can be described as a “Party In Your Mouth” – then there’s this dish that I can only describe as a full blown “Rave In Your Mouth”! Super soft and silken tofu is popular all over China and Asia – known as Tofu custard or #豆腐花 – it’s normally found in a sweet/dessert form and served with a flavored light syrup. But fortunately for us here in Chicago, we can enjoy it in a smooth, salty, spicy, crunchy, bright, pickled version. @bydamao is a 20 seat spot tucked inside a small strip mall near 26th & Halsted – A Place By Damao is like no other place in the city. Serving popular street food you would find in the city of Changdu, China (part of the Sichuan Provence) You’ll find all kinds of super popular small dishes like duck wings, pork intestines, hand cut noodles, Bell dumplings, pork feet. This Tofu Custard was a pleasant surprise as I have never had this outside of China. It’s spicy, like most of the food here – but that’s exactly what Chengdu cuisine is all about. The tofu in this dish is very mild, so it’s the toppings of soybeans, crushed Sichuan peppers, salty pickled chopped greens, and onions give all the flavor your mouth can handle! Spicy food isn’t about burning your lips, it’s meant to warm you from the inside out. And with our insanely cold weather, I think this is the perfect food to help us endure! If you’re on the adventurous side, I highly recommend a trip here. Dishes range from $3-$18. There’s a menu with illustrated pictures of their most popular items, full menu is listed on a 1/4 sheet of paper with a vague description. Ask the server for assistance. Grab a few friends and head over for a truly great culinary adventure!
