The Thought-Provokers: Celebrating Chicago Art

The freedom of artistic expression is one of the most important hallmarks of a free society, but that freedom would be meaningless without the artists who pour their heart and soul into the art they produce. We are beyond fortunate to have a thriving arts community in Chicago and below we’ve highlighted art from some of our favorite local artists.

Work in progress..lookin to try and finish this by the end of the week😬🎨🎨🎨

Heres a little life story to introduce myself- When I was 19 I got arrested for manu/deliv of #LSD. Set up red handed, I was sure I was going away for a while. The picture on the right is the #mugshot from when they just gave me a bond of $250,000. I knew I wasn’t going anywhere fast. I had never felt so defeated in my life. A month goes by and I get another continuance for a month later, I get back to my cell and about 2 hours after that a CO comes up to my chuckhole and tells me to pack my shit im leaving. I was so confused I thought they made a mistake but I figured fuck it they gonna have to catch me once i get out the gates. Turned out it was all legit because of some technicality that I still dont understand, but I wasnt out the water yet. I got out and went back to the same thing harder than ever before because I knew they were gonna come back for me. So the day after my 20th birthday Im chillin at my moms house when a guy with a UPS uniform and a box comes up to the door asking “you lucien?” Because my birthday just passed I figured it was a present from one of my family members. I signed his form and he reached in his back pocket and gave me an envelope sealed in red tape. I got served. The picture on the left is the second mugshot. You can see the anger in my eyes. It was taken right after they informed me I had a warrant at a court house I had never been to and revoked my bond (which was now only 5,000 to walk) I think back to the time I spent locked up as the best thing that ever happened to me. It was a much needed reality check and an extremely humbling experience. I also look back and thank god I got out of there. I could still be in prison if I didnt have people in my life that have my back and for that I am forever grateful. sorry for the book just felt like these pictures needed some explanation. left- rage 8″x12″ acrylic on canvas not for sale right- defeat 8″x12″ acrylic on canvas not for sale #acrylicpainting #pourpainting #cellpainting #acrylicpour #chicagoart #chicagoartist #trapart #stencil #streetart
